Purpose:

Neurofibromatosis 1 (NF1) is an autosomal dominant condition caused by mutations on the NF1 (17q11.2) gene. Patients with NF1 have an increased risk of developing tumors such as optic gliomas and malignant peripheral nerve sheath tumors (MPNST).

P53 EXPRESSION IN PATIENTS WITH NEUROFIBROMATOSIS 1 PRESENTING NEUROFIBROMA AND PLEXIFORM NEUROFIBROMA WITH AND WITHOUT ASSOCIATED MALIGNANT PERIPHERAL NERVE SHEATH TUMOR:

The plexiform neurofibroma (PNF) constitutes one of the significant complications of NF1 that may occur in childhood. p53 expression has been indentified in the plexiform neurofibromas of neurofibromatosis patients.
