Purpose:

Type I neurofibromatosis (NF1) is considered the most common “new” spontaneous, dominant, genetic mutation in human beings, with complete penetrance, despite having variable expression. Incidence of NF1 is approximately 1:2500 newborns, affecting all races and having identical correlation between men and women.

 

PREVALENCE OF MALIGNANT PERIPHERAL NERVE SHEATH TUMOR IN CHILDREN AND ADOLESCENTS WITH TYPE I NEUROFIBROMATOSIS

Purpose:

Type I neurofibromatosis (NF1) is considered the most common “new” spontaneous, dominant, genetic mutation in human beings, with complete penetrance, despite having variable expression. Incidence of NF1 is approximately 1:2500 newborns, affecting all races and having identical correlation between men and women. The malignant peripheral nerve sheath tumor (MPNST) accounts for 2–10% of all malignant soft tissue tumors.
